Default Paint Within the Engine Bay

I've seen a few LS1's at carshows where the oem (i assume it's oem) paint under the hood and at the sides of the engine bay looks as deep and shiny as the paint on the outside. Is there some special technique to achieving this??? I have a 2000 Pewter WS-6 with an immaculate engine bay, but I can't get my paint to look like theirs. I wax it to death, using Megguires, but it never really shines. Do they get theirs repainted or touched up??? I did do a quick search and couldn't find much that helped.

I think they add a clear coat. I've been looking into this myself.

yea its a clearcoat. the oem underhood has a mat clear on it. its a clear that protects the paint, but dies back so there is no shine. you need to put on a regular coat of clear, like the kind on the exterior of the car to achieve the look

Okay, this may be a dumb question, but what would be the best/easiest way to get clearcoat on it without getting overspray where you wouldn't want it??? Do they pull the engine out?
