It would not hurt anything. Most chroming shops are smart enough to know where and where not to chrome! If something can't be further disassembled, the shop will be careful not to chrome moving parts.

thanks, I was just afraid the chroming process might ruin the integrity of the tensioner, making it weaker.

Did you ever chrome your stock tensioner? If so how did it work out?
I want to do the same thing to mine but I have heard the chroming process may ruin the integrity of the tensioner.

I went with a billet set up and had it plated. Don't bother with the stocker.

I thought about an aftermarket tensioner but I like the way the stock is self adjusting. I may need to look into the powder coating idea, I was not aware they had a chrome finish available.

Anyone else chromed their stock tensioner?

I'd be scared that maybe something in the dipping process might get into the spring of the stock tensioner.

I know, that was may initial concern but nobody can say for sure what would happen if anything. Some chrome shops are saying that it will be ok and others are not sure.
In theory the spring is metal and if you can chrome metal then why would the chroming process damage the spring right?
I guess if I don't hear anything definite from anyone on this forum I will try it with one of the chrome shops that say it should be ok and see what happens.
