This is my first atempt at a whole car, so hopefully it will turn out. Biggest thing I dont want to do is rush it. I told myself before I started that the longer it took the better it would look in the end.

Thanks! On the center part between the lights, I used 3m's rubbing compound to take the fadded bird off. Then since it was alread so smooth I only used 2000 grit paper and the steel wool. Also what do you guys think of filling in the pontiac on the bumper. Anyone got pics close up of the bumper smooth.

lots of work huh? not trying to bust your ***** but dont sand with anything finer than 320 than prime it, block it with 320 prime again, block it once more with 320, than 600 wet the whole car and paint.

I dont have the cash for the paint yet, so I figure the smoother I can get it the better the end result. Like I said though, this is my first try at it. We'll see what happens. Thanks for the input.

You are correct in that you want it to be as smooth as possible, but that would be the paint at the end if you are color sanding and buffing.
sercastiK is right. You want some "tooth" for the primer and paint to stick, otherwise you could end up with all of your hard work peeling off....

I hate to say it, but you prolly should sand the primer off, and use what grit sandpaper is recommended for the primer you are using. The last car I painted was several years ago, but I used BC/CC type of paint. IIRC I used 320 before the primer and 400 before the base coat.

aaarrrgggghhhhh!!!!! finish body work with 180 before primer, sand/feather good paint with 180-320 before primer. after primer sand with 400 on a da, then 600 wet. that 2000 was a WASTE, it didnt even touch the scratches from the 400. 2000 is for AFTER clear before buffing. you should start over.
