Default Cloudy Shifter Plastic

The piece of plastic that covers the P R N D 3 2 1 has gotten like cloudy, to the point that in daylight it is next to impossible to tell what gear I am in by just looking. Any ideas as to how to clean this or replace it? Thanks.
BTW I have an 01 T/A A4.

OK the suggestions above didn't work, I got a plastic polish from a local hardware store, and it did nothing. Now I have some pictures of the problem. Could I just replace the piece? I saw a car one time that had it replaced, with a plate that read T R A N S Am down. This is quite annoying, what can I do about it? Thanks.

I would look into a DIY peice, maybe come clear plastic from Lowes and cut to fit, dont see why that wouldnt work.

How do I get to that piece? I have never taken out any part of the center console before.

Im assuming once you unscrew everything around the console and slowly wiggle and oh yeah...take off the shifter ***, it should come right out. If it doesnt your wiggling will help ya find any screws you forgot. Maybe using some of that polish on the other side will work? If not, I'd try what PSYKO suggested. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. I will take it apart tomorrow, and see what I can come up, it looks like I am going to do some kind of custom piece. I'll will post up my result afterwards.

Hopefully it goes well

Did you polish only the top side because that fog looks like it's from the underside?

Anyway just take the shift plate off and there are some 7mm bolts on the bottom that hold that piece amoung others on. you are more than likely gonna need a dremel (if you don't have one) to make that piece out of plexiglass.
