under hood painted

Default under hood painted

Well i got bored last weekend and decided to paint the ugly plastic parts under my hood. see what you think of the outcome.



This first one is with everything painted as you can see in the pictures to follow ,I left the stickers on the radiator cover when I painted last weekend. I couldn't stand it so I got out tuesday night removed the stickers and repainted it with out the stickers, also decided to do the brackets at the back of the engine from the fenderwell to the wipercowl and the rod over the battery.






























MATERIALS USED: 5 CANS DUPLICOLOR VICORY RED PAINT
3 CANS DUPLICOLOR CLEAR TOP COAT
1 CAN DUPLICOLOR SANDABLE PRIMER
1 PACK 800/400 ASSOROTED SANDPAPER
1 PACK SMOKES TO HELP ME BE PATIENT BETWEEN COATS OF PAINT
1 PLACE TO DO YOUR PAINTING (I USED MY BACK PATIO)


PARTS PAINTED:
RADIATOR COVER AND RIVETS THAT HOLD IT IN PLACE
FAN SHROUD
AIR INTAKE TUBE
Airaid BOX
PCM COVER TO MAIN PCM
PCM COVER TO ALLISON CONTROL MODULE
FUSE BOX AND TOP
ENGINE COVER
FENDERWELL TO WIPERCOWL BRACKETS only shows in first pic its updated
ROD OVER BATTERY Only shows in first pic its updated


PROCESS:
1. REMOVE ALL PARTS FROM UNDER HOOD (FRIDAY NIGHT)

2. CLEAN ALL PARTS WITH SOAPY WATER (FRIDAY NIGHT)
3. WET SAND ALL PARTS WITH 800 GRIT PAPER (FRIDAY NIGHT)
4. DRY ALL PARTS (FRIDAY)
5. WIPE ALL PARTS DOWN WITH DENATURED ALCOHOL (FRIDAY)
6. PRIME ALL PARTS WITH SANDABLE PRIMER (SATURDAY)
7. WAIT 30 MIN, RESAND ALL PARTS 400 GRIT PAPER,WIPE DOWN WITH LINT FREE CLOTH (SATURDAY)
8. SPRAY 4 COATS OF DUPLICOLOR VICTORY RED PAINT 15 MIN BETWEEN EACH COAT (SATURDAY)
9. WAIT 1 HOUR SPRAY 3 COATS OF DUPLICOLOR CLEAR TOP COAT 15 MIN BETWEEN EACH COAT (SATURDAY)
10. LET ALL PARTS CURE OVERNIGHT
11. REINSTALL ALL PARTS VERY CAREFULY (SUNDAY)

12. TAKE STICKERS OFF RADIATOR COVER CAUSE I DONT LIKE THE STICKERS ALSO DECIDE TO DO THE BRACKETS AT BACK OF ENGINE AND ROD OVER BATTERY (TUESDAY NIGHT)

TIME SPENT:
FRIDAY NIGHT 10 P.M. TO 3 A.M.5 HRS COULDN'T MAKE MY SELF QUIT

SATURDAY 12 P.M. TO 10 P.M. 10 HRS

SUNDAY 1 P.M. TO 3 P.M. 2 HRS

TUESDAY 6:00 P.M. TO 10:00 P.M. 4HRS


TOTAL 21 HOURS

TIME SPENT ALSO INCLUDES TIME I HAD TO GO INSIDE AND PLAY WITH MY SON
AND ALSO DO ALL THE OTHER NORMAL STUFF DADS MUST DO AT HOME
SO IF YOU HAVE NO INTERFERENCES YOU CAN PROBALY DO IT IN 10 HOURS


COST: $55.83 EXACT (COUNTING THE SMOKES)



This project was very fun, I enjoy this kinda stuff.
However I did end up having to go to the auotparts store 3 times during the project.
I was in such a hurry that I forgot something everytime.
I should have made a list, of course real men don't make list, Do they?

Looks good, but I think you should have tried a different color, to sort of mix it up a bit. THAT IS A LOT OF RED!!!!
