Default 36 LED, 11" Long License Plate Light

Well, got bored yesterday and decided to make a new license plate light. My old one had 18 LEDs and I just threw it together with some left over circuit board and LEDs from when I illuminated my front plate.

This one was more thought out and had a full circuit bored to cut up and make it. This one also plugs directly into the 194 socket for power.

Cool Idea I hope you don't mind me making one for myself. I think I'm going to do blue LED's.

that is very nice looking but i dont really like me license plate to be that visible at night, especially when doing not so legal things like cutting donuts burnouts, etc.

I have no plans on making them, thought it's a pretty simple concept. Just a little time consuming. I probably invested 1.5 hours of time...
I don't mind anyone copying. If you do, post some pics of a blue one. Just remember cops won't like the blue. Legally, white is the only color to use for the light. The white LEDs give off a slight bluish tint to them, but I had no problems with my old one or my front plate.
This is just an idea and reason I made a white front license plate. You can always put some translucent vinyl over the white LEDs and it'll give off that color hue. If you ever got tired of that color, just change it. Just an idea.

I have no write up, but here's a schematic I drew up for my rear cargo light, so you can wire it up the same way, just have to figure out how to lay it on the board.

Materials I used were:
$5 Circuit Board From RadioShack
36 LED, purchased off e-bay. Got 100 of them for around $20 shipped.
Solder
Wire
Base of 194 LED Bulb (I initally had a 194 LED replacement bulb in the stock housing)
Liquid Electrical Tape to seal up the back of the board when finished.
4 tie wraps to connect the boards.

Yeah I've been running a blue Xexon bulb for aver a year now and the cops haven't said anything to me. I'm going to build mine as soon as my LED's come in. I ordered some from Onium.com. I should have it done by next week. I will definetly post pics when I get it done. I'm going to build them at tech school in the electronics lab. So maybe I can talk my teacher in to giving me some extra credit. Once I get my licence plate I'm going to do the rear marker lights as well. Like Nighthawk did. Where did you put the one for the rear cargo area at. Do you have pics?

Wire in a switch to turn just the plate light on or off from inside the car.
But I wouldnt know how to or do anything like that...

That does look pretty cool. If you made them dude, I'd buy one.

Are those led's the ones that already have the resistor on them?

You're more than welcome to do it. I think it'd be awesome to see the idea spread around!
