Default what do u think of big tachs???

i like the appeal of BIG TACHS mounted on the dashboard.....gives it nice appeal in my eyes.. my ws6 is stock except for loudmouth and fee mods, and its an A4. when i see the tachs they are usually on like....10sec cars. u thnk it wuld be of me to throw it in there. i dont want to get **** on and have people say "o what u think u got in hat car!" i dont take verbal abuse about my car very well . so in saying that what u think i should do??put it up o leave it alone?

mm i like em too but its up to you, its your car.
I liek the monster 5" autometer series. really for the money, i would buy a throttle body or a shortthrow or something, but thats just me.

*please dont ge the ridiculous 10, 11 or 12K RPM tach's. My friend has a 11K on his ws6, and it looks stupid since even with a hot cam, hes only hitting 6600 RPM.
I think for LS1's, a 8K 5" autometer would be perfect.

If you want it, Get it. If your into modding your car get it you will need it eventually. The stock tach was only good enough till i got slicks and gears, then it was to slow. I got the auto meter "auto gage" 5 in. 8k tach with memory for like $90

Personally i'd wait until you needed it so it's justified... otherwise what's the point of having a big tach in a stock auto? if you start doing gears or torque converter where you're going to have to adjust the shift points, then it'd probably be a good idea to get an accurate gauge... though personally I think the big *** gauges look tacky

You asked for my opinion and I think they're if you don't need them.

They are alot faster than the stock guage. Mine is mounted on the lower part of the a-pillar cover, it's pretty low key. It's looks kinda corny on the dash. "Look at me, I'm fast, I have a big tach". Not to mention drilling holes in the dash, screw that.

I had a 5" Monster Tach in my supercharged 87 Mustang GT, but I needed it there since the stock tach in those cars was not only inaccurate but inconsistent too. When the car heated up the tach would read different than it did at first. Very strange.

I found my best results with that car by shifting it at exactly 5500rpm (12.16 at 112mph) and I could never be that consistent with the shifts when I had the crappy stock tach only.

Seems stupid to have it in an A4 car thats stock. If you have a race car or a highly modded 6 speed, I could see it being useful. Until then you are really just doing it to make it look fast, just like a guy might put a big wing on his car.

If you want to know where your car is shifting so you can adjust it via programming or what not, buy an autotap and log the RPMS. Then you'll have something useful AND your dash wont be cluttered up by some godawful tach.

why you even need a tach. Should beable to tell by the sound the engine makes . I thought one reason was that you could only get a shift lite when ya buy a tack but I got one that takes pills so I was wrong lol.

I got a 5" tach, works very well, got a nice blue lens to replace the stock yellow light, I look at that when I shift, basically blinds me, so I know when to shift, it is a lot faster than the stock tach..

If you have a need for it (i.e. shift point adjustment, compensating for stock tach, racing, etc) then do it if you want. If you do it just for looks, though, you'll probably get ****. Either way just make sure you actually hook it up! I was sitting at a light next to ricer the other day and I could clearly see his 5" monster tach with shiftlight. The damn needle was sitting at 0 the whole time. I had to laugh.

bigass tachs on automatic ricers
