Do I need to cover this, and can I spray my whole engine with water?

no you wont need to cover it just dont use high pressure water while your spraying everything off...

I would at least cover the batt, the pcm by the pass fender and the two fuse blocks.

I would...my main concern is everything w/ all the tight spots where you haveta get under wires and such
