Default How-to Remove side molding on TA

I saw a few pics of the side molding removed and wish to do the same to mine. I am thinking wash then use a heat gun and 3M Emblem remover. Does anyone have a way of doing it that seems to work without too much work??

Basically all that I did was pull them off and use my thumb to get all the glue off. But, the best method that I have read about is using a clay bar to get the glue off of the car. If you decide to just use your thumb bewarned, its going to be sore for about a week. Oh, you can also use some fishing line too, that also works good.

i just did mine a few weeks ago, the side in the shade was a million times easier to get off, a lot of people seem to like warming it up or letting it sit in the sun, the problem i had with the side in the sunlight was that it like melted the adhesive and it took forever to get off, where as the other side in the shade just peeled right off

use a heat gun and some fishing line
keep the gun on low heat or youll burn the paint.
then use a bug andtar remover and a claybar to remove all the adhesive that is still left.

Exactly what I did, along with some Goof Off. Makes washing the car a little easier. Much smoother wiping from the top to the bottom of the door, etc.

hair dryer, heavy weight fishing line, 3M adhesive remover and 4 thumbs. use some leather gloves with the fishing line cuz that stuff hurts. i also went over it with a little NXT wax since its been covered for so long.

I did it last night...in the dark...I will re-wash the car and see what happened. I used the heat gun to get it started. Then once it started coming off I just pulled on it. I used my thumb to get the tape off then used 3m Adhesive, wax and tar remover to get the rest of it off. I took some pics last night...I had the heat gun up pretty high, I hope I didn't burn the paint. I will post some pics in just a bit.

WD40 works well pulling adhesive off. You could also use a chisel or a SOS pad, they'll take goo right off...

yeah it IS a PITA but its worth it overall i think. give the car a much smoother look, especially on the T/A's.

Nah...it only took like 20 mins...I got a little outline where the molding was...but I am almost sure the clay will take it off. If now, cleaner wax will. But yes, it makes the car look so much better. It is too hot out now to wash...gimme an hour and pics should be up!!!

Here are a few pics...

With molding

another with heat gun

after off--before cleaned

a few after cleaned. Damn wife pulled in right as I was gonna back it into better light.

Maybe one of these days I will COMPLETELY detail it and take some more good pics.

I actually did burn the paint a little with the heat gun, but after claying it, I used some Mcquires polish and it looks good as new. The heat gun really didn't help that much...I think had I waited till a day it sat in the sun a little then added the 3m remover...it wudda been easier and better.

FYI, the clay bar I purchased, specifically to remove this adhesive, did not work at all! After an hour, and no progress, I gave up and went straight to goof off. was done in five minutes...just fyi

I heated the corners up with a hairdryer to start it, wedged some floss, and then pulled off. Scraped at the adhesive with my fingers; I didn't feel like wasting cash on something I'd use once. I cut both of my thumbs open. Took a damn week to heal.

getting the last traces of glue off the paint is the worst part. 3M adhesive remover from the local auto parts store worked very well. let glue soak and use a 3m soaked rag to take the glue off.

99--you could also use a box cutter---have you tried that?
