Default anyone ever polished their headers????

Just wondering if anyone has polished their stainless headers.....if so how long did it take for them to turn gold, how often do you have to repolish, and how far down the tubes does the discoloring travel.........just curious cuz i want to polish my new QTPs.....thanx in advance

if you drive the car, i would reccomend against it. it will be alot of work to keep it looking nice. but if its just a show car, go for it. my headers were black...now there a nice rust color, but you cant see them so i dont mind.

I purchased a set of Kooks a little over a year ago. Before I put them on I cleaned them up real good, as they had a light coating of oil on them. I used silver polish, and cheese cloth, and they came out real nice. I was able to get the ink printing off the tubes as well.

It didn't take long for them to have a gold luster. I have not tried to polish since the install....to much work in a very confined area IMHO.

Good Luck.

I just got a set of QTPs myself, and I was talking to Barry aobut this very subject. He said that it would do not good as the heat will change the color anyway. I am sure it won't hurt if you wanna do it anyway.

It has been suggested that people still coat them for appearance reasons, but it seems there are varying opinions on that as well.

I polished up my QTPs when they came in. I still haven't put them in but they will turn colors so there really isn't any point but I thought I would give it a try anyway

I have no desire to polish mine, but the stainless headers that have been Jet Hot-coated don't discolor. I've got a good 20,000 miles on mine, and they still look like they did when I bought them.

not on high quality 304 stainless steel headers like kooks and QTP, they don't require the coating, and i don't like the "dull shiny look" (if that makes any sense at all) of ceramic coated headers.....i like the chrome look of polished.....even if it discolors some JMO
