Default Steering Wheel coming apart?!

Hey all, somebody else has to have had this problem, the rubber on the top half of my steering wheel is litterly worn through to the gritty rubber and when I rub it, it flakes a little. Is there anything I can put on it that will re-seal it?

I avoided the problem early with a steering wheel cover... I know there's a way to seal it though, my mom used it on her Rav4 steering wheel. I think it still showed the grit and everything... but the feel wasn't there and there wasn't anymore flaking... can't think of the name of it, though.

I have seen a few nice original wheels selling for around $40 on ebay.

Nope, nail polish didn't work. It flaked off in a day.

Somebody has to know SOMETHING????

The wheel is dry rotting on the top due to Texas sun and sweaty hands on a 77k mile vehicle.

Where are you located? I have a Vynil wheel you can have for $25 (No Airbag) and I will even install it if you are in the Dallas area........
