Default Blacking out center taillight piece

I was just wondering if theres a special way to black it out, or do you have to buy a specailly made one? Like could i wet sand the red out and buiff it? That would be the back piece of a Trans Am tail light assembly.

one thing, though, make sure u do all the sanding u need to do before u do the polish. i tried to go back and sand some more and it added a ton of work cause the sanding didn't go well cause the water would bead off instead of lubricating and it did more scratching than good

i just sanded the trans am and the phoenix off smooth, then buffed it out to a crystal clear finish with some nice polishes.
