Yes sounds like the wrong gauges. Often people switch gauge clusters so that the car will show a lower mileage on the dash. However I do beleive that mileage is stored in either the BCM or PCM, and an autotap should reveal if there are any discrepancies.
According to this page http://media.gm.com/division/canada/...8Firebird.html
You should have a 150mph speedo
How long ago did you buy the car? Who did you buy it from? I would take it back and threaten with mileage tampering. If you change out the gauge cluster, you have to go get it certified by a dealership or another shop that is allowed to do so, or else the mileage is invalid and ruins the value of the car.

its all stored in the computer, sometimes gauges go bad and people are cheap ******** and dont need it to go up to 150 so why buy one, tons of v6 gauges floating around out there because noone wants them. its all electronic all you gotta do is replace it, also to adjust the miles theres software you can use to edit the miles.... even tho that is EXTREMLY illegal
