Default Will this hurt my stock WS6 wheels?

I got some Mother's Aluminum Wheel polish. However, it says not for anodized aluminum? My wheels are the stock WS6 wheels. They are not polished chrome for sure.

Your wheels are the stock chrome ones. Anodized aluminum is the kind like the blue and white anniversary TA wheels. Yours should be fine.

I thought the stock WS6 wheels were polished aluminum?

I just wash them, put a little polish on, then wax them and they look amazing

98- 00 WS6 cars came with either chrome 17s, or optioned 16" wheels. (Yes, there are exceptions ie. 30th anniversary wheels, those odd looking silver 3 spoked wheels) You want to use a chrome polish on these.

For 2001, GM took the below shown chrome wheel (see pic in next post). And offered it very similarly styled, but it was polished aluminum w/ a factory clear coat.

Half way through 2001, they used a thicker spoked, wheel, which is also high polished aluminum and clear coated. This wheel carried over for all 2002 WS6s.

All that is needed, is some soap and water. Yes, you can wax them, since they are clear coated. It usually won't add any luster however, some added protection; yes. If you have some serious crud on your wheels, go to Pep boys/autozone (whatevers easier for you) and look at wheel cleaners. You want one the is safe on clear coated aluminum wheels. I'll post some pictures of some here in a minute

Not true. If your car is an '01-'02 WS6 with 17s, you should have 17" High Polished Aluminum wheels (clear coated from the factory). Although these are not anodized like the 30th wheels, aluminum metal polish is not required. They are clear coated, and are to be treated like the paint on the car.

If you bought the car used, and maybe some other year stock chrome WS6 wheels made it onto your car, that's a different story all-together.

Those are the chrome 17/16" style WS6 wheel. (pictured is 17") These are chrome. '98-'00 WS6 cars if so equipped.

These are the same wheels, but are polished aluminum instead of chrome. Notice the thinner, and more curved spokes. These were offered in 2001.

These wheels pictured above, are that of a later made 2001 car. These are the factory 17" WS6 wheels on ALL 2002 cars. Notice the thicker, block like shaped spokes.

The only reason I can see your car being different, is if someone put an earlier model wheel, on your car? (bought it used?)

No, your wheels are 16" correct? No 16" high polished wheel was offered during the year of 2001-2002. I am also not aware of a polished '99 16" wheel. Your wheels are chrome. If it is a true WS6, it may have been optioned with the downgraded 16" chrome wheels. These are styled exactly alike to the 17" chrome wheels pictured in my above post. The only difference I believe, si the center section of the wheel. It may be SLIGHTLY different than that of the '98-'00 17" chrome WS6 wheel.

If I'm correct, your center cap should say ABS.

My point in all this is, WADDISME, your wheels are polished aluminum, and clear coated from the factory. You don't need that aluminum/metal polish. Just some soap and water, and wax if you care too.

I stand corrected!

But aluminum polish won't hurt too much this once on the wheels this time if they're cleared, right?

Are your wheels 16" or 17"? If 17", they are pictured above, second picture out of the above 3.

I had thought that Chrome 17s were the only available 17s '98-'00. With the similarly styled 16s being available all the way through '02. However, I could be mistaken.

As for using metal polish on those clear coated aluminum wheels... It shouldn't really be done. But since your looking at a sealed polished aluminum, it would be hard to see what damage you did do with the metal polish.

The abrasives in the polish would scratch the surface of the clear. Hopefully it wouldn't eat away at. It's a Mother's product so I doubt it would...

You know that the AAA rims you have pictured are not factory, right? They were chromed by that company and that all 98-02 WS6 wheels, except for the 30th and 35th were high polished with a clear coat.

Quit screwing with people there is NO downgradede WS6 wheel!!!! All WS6 wheels are 17" polished alluminum, from 96-02 16" was either painted or steel wheel that was chromed. Why do you think STOCK WS6 wheels have a lite white tint to them unlike your aftermarket pic of chromed ws6 wheels? geeze

Yep, they were the only close up pics I could find to demonstrate though.

I was pretty sure in the early 98,99,00 years, a chrome wheel was offered for the WS6. Upon closer inspection of my Catalogs, yes, they were all HP aluminum.

As I stated above, I was almost positive there was a 17" chrome wheel offered early on. Corrected that now..

This wasn't my point in all this anyhow. WADDISME's wheels are HP aluminum, there for, no polish needed.

I'm fairly certain I know the difference between chrome an polished aluminum

Thanks for the info. They are 17" HP aluminum. I just thought they might be anodized, which the polish says not to use. I will be returning the polish as I do not need. That was my only question.

BTW, my caps say "Pontiac", not "WS6". My car has the WS6 option on the door and the WS6 badge. What is that about? I want the WS6 caps!!!

Yeah, GM gave us that big Pontiac arrowhead as a center cap. I'll PM you with a place I know to get the other decals.

You also might want to try afterthoughtsauto.com Seems like that's something they would have.
