Default Confused about Chrome..

What makes one chrome oil pan 60 bucks and another 142? I am just now getting into working on my cars my self and I know I picked a complicated car to work on but I think for my first small task an oil pan should be easy enough. I am just afaird I might do something wrong and get leaks. Because the last person who replaced gaskets on my Corvette did something wrong and get 4 leaks. Sorry to be bugging you guys, if you could all link me to a good how to sight for such simple tasks so I can be out of your hair for a while.

Is there a reason you are replacing the oil pan?

my guess would be the cheap one is thinner material and prone to bending then you tighten the bolts up. Also a tip on chome, sand the gasket mating surface. The shiny polished gasket surface maked it easy for oil to leak out.

Dressing my car up and I have an oil change comming up soon so I figure might as well put a chrome pan on.

Oh an how tight do I want the bolts?

I have the GM service manuals for my Camaro...they were a little pricey, but they are excellent for procedures, torque specs, etc...I have not seen the Haynes manual for 'Vettes or 4th-gen F-bodies, so I can't comment on them...

Since when do they make chrome oil pans for LS1's? They're cast aluminum and a strengthening member of the engine. This isn't the same as your 81 Vette smallblock.

most of the parts(pan, valve covers, front cover, block) are aluminum.... you can just polish your stock parts to you hearts content.
