Default Brake caliper question...

I started painting my calipers then realized, I probably should have done it another way. The final color will be red. But I'd like to have FORMULA on the side of them. But rather than go with the decals and have them fall off(been there done that) I was thinking of painting the calipers silver(Chrome?) then put the decals on and paint the red over the top and peel the decals off, and clear. What do you all think? Too much work? or is it worth it? Please let me know before I go too much further. Where is the best place to get the decals made.

It's not a bad idea, I'm full of free time so I'd go for it.

I don't think the caliper decals come as individual letters, if you wanted to do that you'd have to cut out each letter individually.

I think I know where I could have a set made, now question 2. Is there enough room to do this on the back also? or just the front? I'm really thinking I'll do this since the car is down for the winter anyways. I'll get some pictures and let you all know how it comes out!

I know people have done that in the paint industry where they actually lay down silk screen patterns and then clear coat over them. I'm not sure if clear coat will hold up to the temp. that the caliper sometimes sees and if the stickers would want to curl up as the clear coat dries. That may be one way to hold them down without coming off, just a thought.

No, I don't want to clear over the stickers, I want to paint over them, then pull them up and show the silver under.

I think the only problem your going to run into there is that the paint will have a tendency to bleed under the sticker somewhat. It may not come out as nice as you imagine it.

But if that happens, all you really have to do is paint over it.

True, I had thought about that, with it not being smooth. Who know's I may just leave it red and say hell with it.

That would probably help, but I'm not sure.

My FORMULA stickers are still on my caliper's, 3 years later. I painted my calipers yellow, then put on orange FORMULA stickers, works great, looks great. My vote is to just stick with a sticker over paint.
