Default Engine Detailing

Hi All,

I'm killing time during my build at the moment so am painting/polishing things before fitting. Question is, can the Alternator be taken apart? or is it a pita? (I think I fancy painting it). If it can be taken apart (and therefore I can paint), does it get tooooo hot for normal paint?

Cheers

Jim

That looks very good! I'd do the valvecovers in the same color to "tie everything together." Here's a picture of mine.

Firehawk - blub blub blub - you must have some serious time in that, sweet , hmm yep covers may go to blue as well.

Travis - Aha, if someone sells them painted that must mean I can paint mine, now just need someone to confirm if these things can be split apart.

Cheers guys

Jim

If you're going to do the alternator, you might as well take the belt tensioner off and paint it too.

Not yet, but I'll take some day after tomorrow. All wiring minimized to barely anything, coils relocated and a clear lid.

No probs, I'm interested to see what you've done with your wires - might give me some ideas to steal

Yes you can take it apart.. yes it's a PITA

Take it to an alternator shop (one that rebuilds them).. have them take it apart and they you can paint/powderpaint/polish/chome it. Take them back the parts and have it reassembled.

It's not impossible to do yourself but if you get it wrong you will be a sad puppy..

Here is a pic with a chromed alt..

On my new project it's black thermal coated.. low bling

Im not Firehawk #608 but I can tell you that hiding the wires is NOT that hard and does a ton to make the compartment look better. Lots of room for improvement..
