Berger Panel...Flat Black? Gloss Black? Semi-Gloss Black?
What color are you guys painting your Berger Panels? Flat Black with clear coat, semi-gloss with clear coat? I've got a bunch of parts to take to my local painter, and need to know what color to tell him to paint the berger panel. Thanks!

I have a gloss black one because it matches my painted gloss black stripe better. I had a flat black one on there for 1 week, but had several people ask me if I wrecked the car and had to put a new panel in. Funny, right?

I realize the BB 1st gen cars had this. When people refer to it as a Berger panel, only flat paint would make it a true "Berger style" panel as that is how all theirs are done. Might just as well call it a rear blackout panel if you want to be correct about what it is. I just get annoyed with all the questions about it because I live about 25 miles from Berger and have seen over half of the cars they have done(had done since GMMG does all the work).

Yeah, I'm at a loss for which color to use myself (white Z28). I was leaning towards flat black to be more authentic, but then I got to thinking gloss black would match the roof better. Still not really sure....I too worried that people would think it was a mismatched replacement panel. Although I'm guessing for Nine Ball a lot of that had to do with not using inserts....it looks fine but someone less into Camaros might see it as just a different color panel, but red inserts would make it look intentional.

If we want to get technical about it 30% gloss black is correct for Berger and the early Camaros. For those who dont know what a 30% gloss would look like, the Krylon Semi gloss is as close as you get. To be technically correct in the engine compartment you would have a variety of blacks ranging 30% to 70% in gloss. I think a lot of people couldnt tell you the difference between flat and semi gloss.
I think the gloss panel looks great to complement the stripes on nine ***** car, although you could put a green panel on that car and it would still look great. I think the semi gloss looks best but as I found out tonight there are exeptions.
Just my .02

I just did mine yesterday, and I used Semi-Gloss black from Dupli-color. Personally I think it came out exactly how I wanted it. I don't really worry what non-enthusiasts think about my car, cause people who do know cars will know why its painted like that. I will probably get lots of weird looks because my car is Onyx black, and I used the semi gloss on it.
