Default Does Meguiars really outshine the others?

I have always used Mothers California gold Carnuba wax on my 02 bird and now my 02 T/A. It has always made a nice shine imo, is Meguiars (sp?) really much better than Mothers or some of the others?

I just tried some Meguiars for the first time this morning on my car, I was not at all impressed with the shine, and its ALOT harder to remove than most other waxes I have tried, I used mothers for a while and thought it was alright, as of right now I prefer the turtle wax premium gloss stuff

The mequiars NXT is the best "cheap" off-the shelf type wax that I have tried. It handles alot like NuFinish and buffs off just as easy. It also dries clear and doesn't leave the white residue.

Depends who you talk to and what you buy. I've had always really good results with Meguiar's, but some swear by Mother's and others won't let anything touch thier finish other than Zanio. I think when it comes down to it, it is just a matter of preference.
Meguiar's NXT is good stuff and easy to take off, but the Gold Class, I think, has a better shine. If you are wanting the best protection, get the Meguiar's No. 26 Yellow Wax.

Shine is all about proper prep work.

Waxes and sealants should be used primarily for protection.

I agree. I spent roughly 5 hours on my exterior just prepping it, and it came out beautiful. All waxes are generally the same, but the PRE-WAXING is what makes the shine, and those can all be quite different. Personally, I prefer Mother's all the way. Here's what mine came out looking like after spending 10 hours using the entire Mother's product line...

Agreed with the above two statements about the prepwork. That's all that the shine comes from. Protecting the shine, keeping it looking good, that's all dependant on the type of wax/sealant you use. The shine itself, the reflection (unless you're using some really cheap wax that doesn't do a good job and shouldn't even be for sale) is going to look good no matter what you really top it off with as long as you take the time before waxing to have a very, very clean and well prepped surface.

So, if I'm going to do the cheap wax I want the one thats easiest to work with. By cheap, I'm not saying that its crappy either, just less expensive than the menzerna, zaino, and tropicare type lines.

Check out the Hall of Fame sticky for some more information on the prep work

I've never been able to beat Zaino for shine... and typically I don't spend a ton of time doing prep work. My Formula looks beautiful.

another vote for Meguiar's.. but more importantly.

proper prep, proper application of a GOOD QUALITY PRODUCT, (megs, zaino, poor boys, etc.) and proper tools and application knowledge will give you good results.

also .. Luna .. if you didn't like the shine. and it was hard to get off, it wasn't applied correctly.

this was done with a simple process.

Wash with a good car shampoo
clay bar
Megs #83 applied with DA
Megs #21 applied with DA
NXT Paste wax applied with DA

find something you like, and use it correctly, and a lot.

and remember, price does not always mean quality.
