Alcohol on paint?
I'm filling in the C A M A R O on the back of the car.
Got some decals I want to stick on and the directions suggest putting alcohol on the car's paint to ensure there is no wax or oils or anything so the decal will adhere properly. I'm not really feeling that and thought some dish soap would be safer to ensure the same level of cleaning before applying the decal.
Am I right? I would probably clay the area too if I had some handy but I don't at the moment.

I've used rubbing alcohol on different areas of my paint to remove adhesive residue and never had a problem. I don't see why you couldn't use dish soap if you are still too uncomfortable with using alcohol. But to ensure a good adhesion you should probably go ahead and swab it.

I use alcohol on my car almost every week to remove rubber, it has yet to hurt the paint. Those little alcohol swabs will work perfectly. Some dish soap will probrably work fine though.

alcohol should work fine, after the alcohol evaporates, wipe the area down with a papertowl or a tissue, because the alcohol will leave a small ammount of residue. your decals will still stick fine if you dont do this, but its always a good precaution

Only thing alcohol will do is leave some streak marks on your paint. Just wipe
them off. Definitely either use the alcohol or since I do a lot of painting I use
professional wax/grease remover.

Be warned, there are two kinds of alcohol. Make sure you get Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol. I forget the name of the other stuff. The other stuff literally melts plastic, or so I've heard. Sometimes, the two alcohols are placed next to eachother on the shelf, and there can be some confusion. They are both cleaning agents and are both used as rubbing alcohol, but the Isopropyl Alcohol is what you're looking for.
