Help with getting my car to shine
I bought a power random orbital and some pads but not sure about some of these things
What is the best way to get a key scratch out,is n it ot deep (finger tested).
The best way to remove scratch marks left by a blue car on my black camaro and some scratchs on my nose
What is the best polisher/waxer.
I bought ICE bought i have not used it yet.
The final question is what is the best way to use the power orbital (slow speed?, up down?, left to right?)
Any help would be appreciated
thanks mike

Wash your car with dawn dish soap.
CLAY your car. Cruicial #1 detail step.
Look into some 3M Fine cut Compound for the blue scuffs and mild scratches.
Meguiars #80 Speed Glaze to do a real nice clean/polish.
Klasse AIO to really make her shiny and slick. I love this product on Black cars.
Wax with your choice of carnuba.

I believe that he was told to use Dawn because it will take all the waxes and oils and such off of the paint and leave him with just the bare paint/clearcoat to work with. This is a common step when completely prepping a car for detailing. Using it once won't hurt, but you are correct in not using it all the time.

no need to use it even once .. the polishe(s) will remove the old stuff fine ..
what type of pads are you planning on using with the Orbital ?

You are right that you shouldnt wash your car with dawn on a regular basis but in preperation for a full detail, you should to remove all previous oils and waxes. That way, your polishes will break down while working on your clear coat and not while removing old crap that is on your paint. You will be renurishing/oiling/waxing your paint right away so you really dont have to worry about it being dried out.

I disagree. one time is enough to damage the finish.
you should never put anything as alkaline as dish soap on your paint. period.
plus the issue is not just your paint, but all the rubber, plastic, vinyl, etc.
there are other ways to prep a car's paint for polishing that do not damage the paint, or the car.
just my opinion .. but I view using dawn as a lazy way to do it. jmho.

although, washing with dawn in the sun can cause immediate issues.
