I just did mine a couple days ago and for everything it cost about 15 bucks. I had to get 1 can of dupli color, a can of primer, a couple sheets of 400 grit, and a sheet of 1000 grit to sand down the primer.

Alot of people use rattle cans to do it. so...$15. I had it done at a shop, but they did other paint work for me too, not sure how much it cost on its own, probly no more than $200.

You can use a spray can and it will turn out just fine. All you need is some dupli-color paint from walmart/autozone and some primer and your just fine. Most of the ones you see on this site have been painted with a can by the owner in their back yard.

Use a spray can and hold it about 8 " away, you'll be fine. If you mess up , sand it down and try again. Probably the easiest apperance mod you can do.

I was wondering the same thing, but after painting my daily driver's filler plate, I have a feeling I can possibly tackle this myself. First time I have ever sanded, primed, and painted and it came out great.

$125 doesn't sound too bad to have a professional do so, however. If I can get a quote like that, I'd probably go with it otherwise I'm going to give it a shot with a rattle can. ~$25 worth of materials vs $125..

Anybody have some pics of how they did it, or a writeup? How much of the original paint needs to be sanded off before putting down the primer - does you need to take it right down to the plastic or can you just roughen up the surface? What about primer, any specific type work better than others? Lastly, do you need to seal the final colour with anything to keep it from peeling off?

Has anyone else done this themselves? How much of the original paint do you need to sand off?
