I was washing my car when the stream of water from the sprayer hit the hood where a rock nick was and took a chunk of paint off my hood. I got one estimate at $700 and I thought that was ridiculous... I want to spend the least amount of money while getting a good job on it as well but how much am I lookin at here???

is it just the hood that is going to need new paint? if so then 700$ is extremely high. for that price they should throw in a set of headers for ya too. i work part time at a body shop while im in school and maybe it might cost 300 tops. we painted a chevy p/u hood red and i think the charge was around like 250, something around there. but that was for us to sand it, seal it, base it, then clear it. both the top side and the bottom. if it is just the top side of your hood then it should be a little cheaper. we use sikkens paint and it is pretty pricey. hope this helps. and hope you get a better deal.

$250-$300 will get you a quality paint job on your hood.

heh I did the same thing last week...

I was washing the rear bumper and was along the edge/quarter panel got a little close but thought nothing of it until I dried the car. Since it isn't a blatantly obvious spot and my paint is mystic teal (bitch to blend right, so it requires the whole bumper to be repainted) I just used some 2k grit + touch up paint to fix it up.
