Default HELP!! Paint is in VERY bad shape

Hey guys i have a 99 SS with a 120K miles on it, a buddy of mine buffed and polished it for me and used that cleaner wax on it to try top remove all the swirls and scratches and haze thats in my paint, but the paint is still really bad. I was wondering is what should i do? take it somewhere to get it professionally wet sanded or maybe save the money and get the entire car repainted? Any help would be appreciated.

Before anything can we see some pics of the paint, that will help determine whether you need to repaint/wetsand/polish

Get a porter cable, and learn as much as you can, it can be fixed.

I'm new to the whole buffing scene, but I'm pretty sure there are different grades of cleaners and pads. A stronger cleaner or pad will remove deeper scratches, but you are also more likely to damage your finish with the stronger stuff. I say get some really rough pads and "go for broke" before you send it off to a shop to be wetsanded/painted. Although if those ARE cracks in your hood, I don't think a buffing will fix that. Hopefully a pro will ring in here.

although it is hard to be totally correct from looking at a picture .. I don't see anything that can't be fixed by a DA, and someone that knows what they are doing. (other than the hood crack .. that sucks)

as long as your fingernail doesn't get caught in the scratches, you should be able to get it out with a DA and a good swirl remover.

Meguiars, Menzerna, 3M and several others all make what you need.

you should try a DA before resorting to color sanding.

You can burn off the paint with a high power pro porter, you could **** up your whole paint job.

You aren't going to burn the paint with a PC, about the only way you'll screw it up is drop the PC on the car, I use it and my paint isn't fucked up
Get the PC, some pads (Sonus orange and blue) some Menzerna Intensive polish, and Final polish 2 and get to buffing, that paint (aside from the crack) can be saved and made to look 1000x better
like this

That's the one, you change the backing plate to use the polishing pads

I'm sorry to say that no buffer/DA/orbital (or whatever you want to call it) in the world is going to take out those cracks on your hood. It also appears that you might have some small chips. Those will not come out either. The swirls should come out with the right tools/polish.

They list it as a sander for some dumbass reason (probably due to the variable speed aspect) but thats it.

If you wanna get everything together here's a great place to get it all. Backing plate and pads that you'll need. If not they sell the DAS (linked) and the SFX pads seperately. The complete SFX kit works the same (is $10 more) but has the yellow and white pads instead of the orange and green.

I know how ya feel, I have a 10' paint job on my car (and that's just looking at the drivers side). The downside for me is I've got a chipped fender on the passenger side and various deep scratches.
