Personally I think it looks like someone slapped an aftermarket part on without painting it. Looks way to mismatched to me or even close to those dee dee dees that slap carbon fiber hoods on and don't paint them...Not going to do it myself, but was curious what the general concensus is on it...Gotta buddy planning on doing it and I told him I thought it looked like dog ***t.

I think it looks a hell of alot better on most cars. It gives it that nostalgic feel. ( I don't care about spelling today.) I got alot of complements after I had mine finished. I think they look even better when Camaro is shaved off the back. And a new emblem is centered in the middle. I have a white Z/28 and I think it catches the eye more.

I don't know why you guys call it a "Berger" mod, guys have been painting them black since 4th gens came out in 1993. Before any "Berger 4th gens" had them.
It used to be called the retro tail panel mod, since it is basically going back to the big block SS 1st gen Camaros that had them. Its a "Chevy" mod, not a "Berger" mod.
I like the look, but prefer gloss black on modern cars and flat black on 1st gens.

Looks like @#% if you ask me. But I think most of the appearance mods are over the top. Rear fill letters, Manta stripe, hockey stripes, etc just look silly IMO. But like ^ said, to each their own. My taste is some nice wheels, tinted windows, maybe blackouts and then go for power!

The main difference, for me at least, is the fact that on the first gens the panel actually followed the body lines of the car. So, the "black-out" thing worked. Not so much on our 4th gens. The actual individual body panels don't dictate the lines on the car. For instance, where the trunk/hatch dips between the tailights. You just don't really get the same effect. I always thought that if I were gonna do that mod I would bring the black area up onto the edge of the hatch even with the top of the taillights. I think that would look sweet.
Having said all that, I do like it on some 4th gens. It depends on the overall look of the car. Like the HOSS that Tony used to have…

As for the topic, i've thought about doing it, but haven't committed to it yet. If I did, it would be gloss black.

+1 for the flat black panel - although I shaved mine of the lock and "camaro" indents, moved the SS emblem to the middle - I'll try to get some pics up later.
On a side note - I even like the flat black panels when done on the Mustangs... '03/'04 Cobra and the Mach 1's

The flat black looks good on some cars, but I just think that the gloss brings so much to our modern musclecars.
