Clear Coat for polished metal
I'm looking at polishing the brake calipers on my car.. however, my entire bike is polished and i'm always having to polish, polish,polish... so i want to clear coat these after i polish them...
Is a clear coat available that will stick to high-polish metals?? if so, what?
edit: other than the $90 crap that i've seen ppl suggest in the past

clear powder coating would be my first choice, something like $50.. dupli whatever brand has this metal cast paint that will stick to polished surfaced but i doubt it will withstand the heat and general wear and tear of the brake calipers. You might could try coving it in a high temp clear epoxy.

It exists. As far as the cloudiness from regular clearcoat, it does tend to cloud up if layed on too heavy.

A powdercoater can order any color coat you're willing to pay for. Even Eastwood sells powdercoat colors and clears.

One thing I'm interested in is, even powedercoat can have an orangepeel in it like regular paint. Does the clear powdercoat show that at all or is it perfectly smooth and reflective. Can't really tell from that pic.

Bryan, it definitely has some orangepeel in it...the pic is a little deceiving, though, the polished edge is uncoated...just the body of the tips and some of the inside is coated...to make cleanup easier...I opted to leave the leading edge bare for future polishing. Sent you a PM.
