Default Carbon Fiber Experiment

This has absolutely nothing to do with anything, but I was off work tonight
and decided to do a bit of experimenting. I have some left over cured carbon fiber that was built by a top of the line vacuum infusion process by probably the best fabricator in the country right now and wondered what could be done with it. Well turns out with a bit of experimenting and the right touch, that cured carbon can be bent. This piece was bent to almost a 90 degree angle with absolutely NO distortion of the weave or of the epoxy. And it only takes a few seconds for it to "re-cure" in the new position. Can you imagine the possibilites, maybe louvers, heat extractors, CF boxed covers for various components. What will I do with this new found knowledge and skill. Hmmmm

Picture sucks, but you get the idea.

I love to tinker. I'm tinkering right now as a matter of fact. AND as I was tinkering I found out that outside bends are much easier than inside bends as it seems epoxy likes to expand rather than compress.

Don't read too much into it. Maybe fiberglass first, then we'll see. My carbon fiber plans are put on hold for a while. Way too busy with FRCs and airlids, etc. etc. etc.
