Painted trim, how to strip the paint off??
I recently painted some of my trim pieces silver to match the exterior. It looks great, but the pieces still have the pebble grain on them. I'm OCD about my car and do NOT want the pebble grains to show through. I was planning on stripping the paint off, sanding the pieces down until smooth, then repainting them.
I was told by a painted at my dad's shop that most paint thinners they use (industrial) would melt the plastic. He thought I should ask around on here and see if any of you have tried paint thinner on your plastic and if so, if it caused any problems. I don't want to have to sit and sand the 4 clear coats, 5 silver coats, and the primer coat off, only to have to resand everything and repaint it all over again. So, what should I use? Any pointers?

You're going to have to sand it anyway.....just go with a rougher grit sand paper and sand through it. If you're OCD....this is really the only way to do it RIGHT.
The faster ways will end up hurting you in the long run. Any chemicals you use will absorb into the plastic and may screw you up when you try to repaint it. Just my $.02

ive found that some brands of brake parts/carb cleaner will take paint off... but i agree that sanding them down would probably be the easiest option since if the chemicals dont work like you want, then you end up with a gooey mess of paint and it'll be even harder to sand off later to fix it...

Aircraft stripper is the fastest method and it won't damage the plastic if you don't let it sit on there forever. Let it sit 2-3 minutes wash off the paint and stripper, reapply and repeat until paint is gone. Usually takes 2-3 applications. Lot easier than sanding.
