Default engine bay repainting...

im getting my car repainted next week from onyx black to gunmetal metallic. i wanted to do as much color change as possible without pulling the motor and all the accesories. what do i need to do about wires and radiator support and all that? does anyone have any pics of there car that has been repainted in the engine bay with engine left in, or pulled (just for an idea?) all help/ideas are appreciated...thanks!

I dont have any pics, but I can tell you it will be a pain in the you know what. Even if you remove what you can, the whole motor, K member etc will have to be taped off.
You would be spending more money to get that painted from all the extra time it would take with the motor in.

its a good friend that owes me so he's doing it for pretty cheap. as long as i could get most of the shock tower and radiator support i would be happy, maybe even most of the back firewall around the engine. i was thinking just some heavy plastic sheet wrapped really tight around motor. and pull the radiator and stuff off the front and would it be ok to unplug computer stuff and just plug it back up later?

Quite honestly you are at a big advantage having a black car to begin with.
I would leave the engine bay black and go for the retro look. If you remember or even if you don't, many of the muscle cars from the '60s had black engine bay no matter what the exterior car was. Consider it before making your final decision. Will save a hell of a lot of time and give you a very cool look. I can almost guarantee you I or anyone else will find unsprayed areas if you don't pull that motor.

I agree with Bryan, leave it black. Its not like its going to clash and you can always have it painted later if you have to pull the engine for any reason.

black is the color of change, because you can paint it any color and the jambs still look cool. but if you are going to change the color under the hood kind of quick, use aluminum foil. it works kick *** to mask wires and lines.
