well after i finish my ls1 front end conversion i am going to be doing the ttop mod myself, im pretty handy and it doesnt look too hard at all, it might be hard to find a shop to do it, but you should call around, maybe some of the custom places will do it, i spent about 320 bucks getting the ttops and all the hardware that goes with it, i will let you know how it goes, oh and by the way, for me it would NOT have been cheaper to just by a TTOP car. When i started looking the closest one to the car i bought that was a ttop was 2k more AND it had over 40k miles more than the car i bought.

There have been several write ups in the past on how to do this, I could have sworn one was on this very forum. Of course, since the search function is broken you probably wont find it easily.

I have done it. Mine was done over a weekend. I had posted on here awhile back about it. Everything including a new t top headliner was $550. It is really easy to do if you have basic skills. Most shops won't touch the conversion. They think it is weakining the car. This is really just lack of knowledge on how these cars are. I have done tons of research on this and I did mine the right way. My tops fit better than stock and everyone that has seen the car tries calling BS on the conversion. If you have any questions about doing the conversion, I'm the guy to talk to.

Here is a picture of the conversion. I don't have current ones with new moldings around the windshield yet, but this will give you an Idea of how it should look when done right.

I did the conversion myself, most of the stuff came from the junk yard. Total I had a little under $400 in parts.

Wow, those all look great. I had no idea that someone could easily ditch the hard top for T's. A buddy wants to get his hartop SS converted over, but he ended up finding someone that does custom Targa tops, so he is going to go ther route. That'll be cool.

its not that hard, and i think there's no RPO code number that says it's factory t-tops or not, so selling it wouldnt really be a problem if you didnt want to tell them. and ( 16 years old ) and my friend ( also 16 ) did it to his car. theres a bunch of write up's around, only takes 2-3 days dending on how long you work on it. you can do it your self for around $500. but depends on where you get all the parts from, find someone parting out a car and you can do it cheaper than that. i can post pics to if you want, i took a bunch.

[QUOTE=loser98]

Am I assuming correct that when you remove the top layer of the roof, this is whats underneath? Or do you have to mold the lips to form the "t-top" etc?

yep, i used my dremel to cut the "roof" like, the painted part. and then you need a sawzall ( or some other kinda of saw, we used a sawzall ) to cut 2 bars, one on either side of the roof. ( totall of 4 cuts) then you need the dremel to cut/trim/mold the "lips." its seriously a weekend job, all the cuts you make you have a aot of lee-way with them. we ended up cutting ( with the dremel) off like 1/2 inch on each side.

power ranger FTW is right.
