Lightbulb !converter hump ??

Anyone done this? For those who don't need cats or get smaller ones/relocate them...anyone hammer down the floorboard to give the passenger more leg room? I was thinking about it today, sure would give the car a much roomier feel on the interior. Is the floorboard pliable enough for a BFH mod or would it have to be cut out and have a new piece made and welded in?

If so, got pics? Thoughts anyone?

You would have to do something about the carpet, if you made it flush, the carpet would be loose, unless you put it inside out, but I doubt you'll have room for that, and it'll look goofy. Your cats arent in the way either, it was from the 93-97 style and carried over to the 98-02. The floorboard is pliable enough for a BFH, but to do it right you will have to either cut the carpet and seam it underneath so it doesnt show and lays flat, then cut the hump out, and get a flat piece welded in. Too much work IMO, nobody ever complains about that thing in my car.

I wanted to do this as well. When I see people sitting in the passenger seat, their right leg is extended while their left knee is up where the airbag is because they put their foot on the hump. I sat in my passenger seat a couple of times while my friend drove my car and I cannot stand it. It was a cheap way of GM cutting a corner when changing from LT1 to LS1.

If anyone has done this, I am curious as to what is involved. As stated above- pics/suggestions?

Thanks
Andy

Thing sucks... I don't know how anybody can sit in that seat. I've sat there once or twice and hated it.

Yep, this is why I ask. It seems to make it even harder to exit the car too for most folks.

Dont see how its a big deal at all, with your legs straight out you cant even feel it, your leg goes right over it, no interferance at all...

BTW thats not a lt1-ls1 thing, its a single cat-dual cat thing. 1993, 1994, and all 1995 cars, except 1995 cali models, had a single cat under that hump. In 1996-02, they have dual cats straight off the manifolds...

which WOULD infact make it an LT1 thing NOT an LS1 thing

guys, I'm going to have to highly recommend against this.

Anyone who knows me and has seen my car knows I'm not afraid to cut and modify the sheet metal in my car. But under that hump, is a primary cross support that runs the width of the car. If it was as easy as beating the floor with a hammer, I'd have done it too. Heck, I'd even cut out a single ply, light guage piece of metal if that's what it was. But under that hump is a thick guage, formed cross support, it's where the tranny mount connects too if I'm not mistaken.

I would never even consider cutting up my car. But I thought I'd butt in with my first post and concur, that the hump SUCKS.

theres something about cutting and pounding on my car that brings a tear to my eye. im not looking forward to pounding my wheel wells for the wheels. i do have to agree though, that thing is annoying. however, my girlfriend seems to like it. we went down to six flags not too long ago and she put her left foot on it that way her knee was stickin up and then she put her chin on her knee. might have been the cutest thing ive ever seen in my life.

Haha LMz28, that's funny. I don't know, I've only had the car about 3, close to 4 months now, and most of my friends that ride in it are just glad that I got rid of my old car. This was a huge step up from my old one, so they don't really complain.

I'm 6'2" and have never had a problem with it. The alternative solution is !backseat passengers and put the seat all the way back.

I like the idea behind that hump, because just like someone else said, when i build my turbo kit for my v6 my turbo can hang there. As for height, i'm only 5'6" so thats another reason i'm not bothered. Also backseat passengers, i have no backseat in either of my cars.
