Default What do I need to wash my car properly?(It's black)

Ok I have a black SS and you can see light scratch marks on it prob from where the previous owner wasnt careful when they washed it. I was going to clay bar it and buff it to get the scratches out and then zaino it. My question is what kind of mitts/towels or anything else do I need? Is there a certain brand that is better then others. I dont even want to wipe it off with a regular towel again. My problem is even with a big towl the first 1 gets soakin wet when drying it down then I have to use another so what do you guys do? I guess I just need tips on drying it off and what towels and washing equipment should I get. Thanks alot

I'd use a california water blade to sheet most of the water off, then dry with a big microfiber towel. There are different types of microfiber weaves for different apps like drying/polishing/buffing/misc/etc.

Have the same problem with my black ss, as far as drying it off so far the best thing i've used is a Leaf-blower...Yes I know a funny thing to hear..But it gets water outa all the nooks and crannies that towels and other things don't get, also even if it looks dry there's always going to be moister left over from whiping it with a towel.

If you don't have a leaf-blower theres a rubbery kind of towel called "The Absorber" comes in various colors can be found at walmart or any auto store, it works great though.

Claybarring your car will take care of alot of smaller things on your paint, then you can later on use a buffer to get some of the stuff level'd out.

Goodluck man, its a pita to keep a black car looking clean.

I too use the leaf blower methed then get everything leftover (not much) with "The Absorber." I have a Meguiars washmit that I use to wash with whatever you do do not get a microfiber mit it holds too much grit.

an even better bet is to invest in some good quality Microfiber Waffle Weave towels for drying .. better than an absorber ..

I use:

Leaf blower
Water blade on the glass
Waffle Weave towels to blto the rest
compressor to work on the trouble drip spots.

I have done a few black cars and all came out with a deep shine by using all meguiars stuff except the absorber witch works great.

First wash the car with a micro fiber sponge. The wash mitts are good but does not hold the water in.

Second when claying the car use fresh car soap as the lube instead of the spray. Its better used ad the end of detailing.

I find meguairs cleaner wax and there gold class or tech wax works great on black. Meguiarsonline.com has a great fourm on detailing tips.

Apply wax with a foam pad let dry for 20 min and then take of with a orbital buffer. Use a micro fiber bonnet too polish. Anything missed can be taken care of with some quick detailer and a micro fiber towel.

Here is a quick pic of a hood of a black 02 zo6.

I have tried using the leaf blower, but when i do it, dirt and stuff flies up from the ground and makes the car dusty again.
maybe i just have a dirty driveway
