Default Rub marks on paint after !molding.

I took off the molding on the Z the other day. I just did the rear 1/4th molding piece first to make sure it was Ok underneath and it was. Then i took the door piece off and it has some pretty nasty rub marks where the bottom of the trim was. I tryed to rub them out with some QD and a microfiber, but it didnt do anything.

Im just wondering what i should do to get these out and get it looking good. It is pretty noticable on red. Will they buff out or will i have to wetsand it? Or is there any other way i could get rid of them?

Here are a few pics:

actually looks like the 3m tape residue with dust, but if u rub over it and u can feel paint missing, new paint! but if it is bumpy, try to buff , its that doesn't work, wet sand

It doesnt really look or feel like paint is missing, its just in the clear. I tryed rubbing it pretty good and got the dust/dirt out, but those marks still stayed.. I will eventually buy a PC buffer and try that out.

I hope this isnt the case. Im pretty sure it isn't though either. It is still good paint and clear under the molding, its just where the bottom of the molding was, it rubbed and gathered dirt and dust over the years and ground down into the clear im thinking.

I hope a good buff job will make it better because i really don't want to put it back on

I found out by getting a carfax vehicle history or similar vehicle history.. can't remember which. I've tried everything. I learned to live with it.. it's barely noticeable.

edit: pm this guy with your last 8 VIN #'s. He can tell you your vehicle history.

What he said ^ 3M rubbing compound or Meguiars body scrub....the scrub works wonders! When I detailed a car for someone she had a serious black rub mark on her passenger side mirror where she'd tapped the doorway of her garage I believe. I rubbed it with the meguiars for about 5 minutes and it took it right off!

Default Me too

I work at the local chevy dealership. I have the same marks on my car after removing my moldings and I asked a friend who does body work at my work if he could buff or wet sand the marks out. He said ..." only if I'm not held responsible". He said once the clear coat started getting sanded it would most likely peal all the way down the door. He said my most likely option was to repaint the doors. Sorry dude. But try buffing and other things and please let me know if any thing works. My car is pewter and the markers are major eye soars. Thanks for the help...repost any good results.
