Default Changing odometer (not trying to be illegal)

i have a 98 v6 firebird and i am thinking about buying a camaro gauge cluster (no red film) so that i can change the color to blue leds. The only problem is that my car only has 20,000 miles on it. If i change the cluster is that going to give me whatever the other cars mileage was. I noticed on InfiniteReality's thread that it is possible to take the odometer out of the car. Can I swap the two when I change the gauges so that I keep my mileage?

also I could have sworn that pro car parts used to have white faced gauges that would light up blue but I cant find them anymore. All I see are the ones with the 150 speedp, I need the 120 speedo.

You do not need to change the cluster. Just swap the overlays. I will pm you the conversion process.

ok cool thanks. also i found the 120 speedo ones on pcp but they are for 00-03 (even though there are no 03 firebirds). will those work in my 98 if i decide to go that route?

Yes, they will work, but no, they will not be a perfect match. There were many changes made to the 99+ gauges such as location of SES light, starting water temp number, etc. I would just do the conversion.

wish i had known of the conversion earlier. altough much more labor intensive, my method got the job done and it came out really good. since i had the white overlays for my 99 T/A, i took out the dremel and using the etching tool cut out each line of all 6 gauges. it took a few hours but looks great and just requires a steady hand and a good eye. im still debating whether or not i will cut out each Number as well as thy MPH/RPM lettering since im not sure how clean they would come out. good luck with wichever route you take

You must have a 1998. I would say maybe 1997, because some had the digital odometer and some had the mechanical. To avoid any hassle, though, I would just look out for a 1998 cluster.
