Default Painting SFCS

Well I got a set of sfcs from someone. They are slp diamond type and are in perfect condition other than paint and some rust. I feel that i could do a good job stripin em down and painting em. I have some red and black powdercoated suspension parts. I figured i couldnt match the red powdercoat with paint so i might as well just paint them black. What would be the best way to paint these?

I was thinking this:
Go over with sander make it nice and smooth.
By hand either use rust oleum rusty metal primer or clean metal primer depending on surface
Then going over with a few coats of glossy rust oleum paint by hand.

Would my method work out good or should i try something else?
