A4 Tranny Temp gauge places???
Hey guys, Im looking for a place to install the tranny temp gauge. I dont want to put in a piller. I would like to find a place some how in the ac vent but since its not a ta not to sure it will work. Also, I a friend told me something about a prefab gauge holder that would let your gauge fit in the ac vent. Anybody heard of these?

make a guage and switch panel to take place of the cig. lighter, it looks badass and eliminates the hassel of trying to clean that stupid little holder thats like 10miles deep.. i cant even reach the bottom of it.. its pointless
plus losing the cig. lighter is no biggie since we have 2

Here's a pic of where I put mine:

I relocated my cig. lighter to the right of the OBDII port, on the plastic piece.
It fits perfectly and it's nice and hidden.

Made it by glueing a piece of plastic from an old Playstation onto the console and then Bondo'ing over the piece.
I then shaped it and drilled two holes for the gauges.
Not the most kosher way to do it but it worked out great for me.
You can see in the pic that the primer/paint (which didn't match ver well, as you can see) cracked and peeled off the Bondo.
I redid it and it looks much better.

I have an Autometer Cobalt trans temp on the left side and an Autometer Cobalt boost gauge on the right.
They are 2 1/16", I made black plastic bezels out of old CD cases to hold them in place, and later found some carbon fiber trim rings.
The Autometer 2 5/8" gauges will fit in place in the vent with no bezel required since they fit perfectly in the vent.

Here, I answered this in another post in great length so I'm going to repost my response keep in mind I was responding to a Trans-Am owner who wanted to mount a gauge somewhere other than the vents and keep the red ligthing theme:
__________________________________________________ _______________
IMO here's your best two options if you're only installing one gauge:
1) Get a SINGLE pod for the a-pillar:
2) Put one gauge in the center console area (just cut a 2 1/16" hole in your TCS plate or get a TCS plate from a Trans-Am or convertible switch plate from a Camaro):
In my car I obviously did both and I used the Cobalt gauges (I then converted my stock lighting to match the Blue LED's) so I ended up with a Black/Blue/Chrome theme to my interior:
(My back seats are now matching black leather and I'm re-covering the doorpanels in black leather this weekend...)
I think the Cobalts blue LED would make a nice contrast to the red lighting in your car but here's a couple of other options:
1) Get a black faced normal gauge and add a red bulb (or red bulb cover which the gauges come with) to get red lighting... I would most recommend this gauge (It's black, has chrome and is FULL SWEEP which most tranny gauges are NOT):
Guage Style: Auto Meter Traditional Chrome
Gauge Type: Transmission temperature
or if you don't like the chrome...
Gauge Style: Auto Meter Sport-Comp
Gauge Type: Transmission temperature
or if you want ALL black...
Gauge Style: Auto Meter Z
Gauge Type: Transmission temperature
Here's and idea of how they would look lit:
2) Finally, and this is what I would do if I had a Trans-Am, you could buy one of Auto-Meter's II Series gauges, they light the NUMBERS up (like the factory style does but with LED's) instead of just a crappy back light and then try to make it red (take it apart, and add a red film or change the leds to red):
Gauge Style: Auto Meter Sport-Comp II
Gauge Type: Transmission temperature
Here's a pic of how it lights up:
Hopefully this helps...
