Rock chips are going to happen on DD cars. It's just a downside of driving and enjoying our cars.

the hood on my 98 SS has many tiny chips in it. the paint quality on the hood and rear spoiler have not held up nearly as well as the rest of the car. I'm the original owner and no body/paint work has ever been done (so bad repair jobs are not the problem). I'm trying to get around to tasking the hood off and dropping it by a body shop to be completely redone.

Yes, I have lots of them. They're irritating and there's not much you can do to avoid them. I'm considering getting a 3M clear bra put on the underside of the nose, since that's the worst spot on my car, but my hood has tons of little chips. When I get a new spoiler and new hood, I'm going to get the nose re-shot at the same time.

my point is the the paint quality on the SS specific parts (hood and rear spoiler) is poor.

That 3m clear overlay stuff is probably gonna be the only thing to help prevent some of the rocks chips. Rock chips suck ***

I have been thinking about doing something like that, cause the rock chips are really starting to bother me.

Yeah, the thought of the paint not matching is scary!

It sure is!

I'm the 3rd owner, only damage ever was the front end being repainted, hood and everything else is factory, and I can see how the black shows up differently on the fiberglass panels/hood/rear hatch vs. the rear quarter panels.

I had them too.I had my body shop look at them and they sugested I clame on my insurance that I got stuck behind a gravel truck. They sent out a inspecter and they repainted my front end, doors, and mirrors. They also wanted to replace my windshild and t-tops.I denied it and used that money for new headlights and paid my deductable with it= no out of pocket expense

just remember - you never really get over on the insurance company. they will recover their costs by raising your rates, and everybody else's also. why do you think you pay so much now? a lot is because of insurance fraud. don't expect people to admire you "cleverness" for doing it.

I agree. Like I want to pay more because other people are liars and thieves.

I've heard this too. At any rate, it's cheaper to replace a clear bra over getting your front-end repainted, wouldn't you agree?
