sanding tailights
my lights are not in horrible condition, just wanted to make them shine. i kno people sand them down and use different grades of sand paper but is there any way i could just use a very high grade sand paper to clean them up a little, or will i have to go through the whole process?

For shine, go ahead and exfoliate a layer with 1000, 1500, and 2000 grit. Then take metal polish to it, preferably with a buffer. If you don't have a metal polish, paint compound is a viable substitute.
Keep in mind that wetsanding alone won't give you any shine, but will actually take away from what you've got. If you believe you don't need to sand at all, go ahead and skip straight to the polish.

I changed out my LS1 tailights for LT1 tails. They where kind of scuffed up when I bought them. I used 800 grit to sand off the DOT lettering, then I used 1000 - 2000 grit to sand the rest of the light and remove the scratches. I then used my Powerball with Meguiars plastic polish and buffed out the sanding. They look like new now, Im pleased with the result.
