Angry Stupid Dash Pad!

How is this for funny? I replaced my 98 TA upper dash pad with a new OEM piece this winter because it spontaneously cracked above a couple mounting posts. Tonight while retrieving my locking lug socket from the glove compartment, I noticed the pad was cracked above at least two mounting posts/tabs again.
I have not even driven it since this pad was installed. Great! I should have applied fiberglass to the back of the pad before installing. Terrific design.

No.

I am not replacing this one until I research this problem further. Did not even get any use out of this one before it cracked. Ridiculous.

Mine cracked. I had a bodyshop repair the crack, sand the whole thing smooth, and paint/clear it with an automotive finish. 2 days in the sun and the paint spider cracked everywhere from the heat coming through the windshield.
F*ck.

Does anyone make a dashmat thats really thin? I hate dashmats, but could maybe stand one if it was not bulky and was smooth looking.

I just ordered mine on a certain auctioning website im sure we are all familiar with...

It was $160 and im putting it in very soon. My dash cracked after I installed a performance meter. The performance meter came with a permanent mount that you can fasten to your dash....well...as you can imagine...1 day after I installed it...I had a huge crack the whole length of the dash!

So when I install the new dashpad...im going to keep my car protected from the sun...but using one of those stupid sunshades we have all come to know.

Pull the A pillar covers out, remove upper dash piece, it's affixed with some velcro.

Alright I just replaced mine this past Sunday and I sure hope lasts a little while but I have heard that it has more to do with the heat from the motor than it does from the sun.

My aunt’s husband was restoring an older car. I am not positive but I think it was a Plymouth GTX. However, he had a guy wrap some well-worn interior pieces in vinyl instead of trying to acquire excellent condition replacements. The pieces looked fantastic, just like new. I have been wondering if this might be used to repair cracked dash pads. I also wonder if it would be helpful to reinforce the underside of the dash pad before installation. Let us put work together to slay this dragon. This is a long-standing problem, and I am certain that LS1Tech has the combined intelligence to develop an acceptable solution. What do you think?
