Default Polished My Stainless Battery Cover – TOO MUCH WORK! No 56k

Ordered a bunch of covers from Specialized Stainless during the 4th of July special. Figured I would polish them myself to save some money since I have a bunch of sandpaper, polishing/buffing compounds, wheels, etc. Also, it is rewarding to do some things yourself. Got around to beginning the polishing yesterday. I actually realized I made a bad decision a couple weeks ago when I touched up some stainless steel exhaust tips. Stainless is a PITA to polish because of its hardness. However, I just finished the battery cover. That was sort of a “learning” piece.

Final stage is white rouge w/ loose section wheel.

Like I mentioned, I had already determined that I made a mistake by ordering the pieces brushed with the intention of polishing them myself. The time and effort is not worth it. My advice to all the “non-professionals” out there considering a stainless polishing project, leave it to the “professionals” with the “industrial” tools unless you are bored out of your mind.

Looks great!

It also looks like a lot of work, that must be why the places that sell these types of covers polished, are actually buying their material already polished.

Yeh, why should I pay someone any extra $38 for added value when I can add the same value with only a gazillion hours of my own labor.
I am taking a break from sanding, sitting here laughing at myself. I am an idiot.
