Default cleaning the engine block

i am about finished putting my ls1 back together and want to get the block clean and rid of the white oxidation thats common. I dont want to paint the block but am looking to acheive just a clean cast aluminum look. What should i use for this, any recommendations? power washing it is out of the question, so some elbow grease will have to be used.

thanks in advance

look up zoop, it basically locks in a coating to not let it get all nasty looking again, people use that on polished aluminum so that it wont get all black and dull looking after a while

Blast it with crushed walnut shells...it will make it look brand new.
