Default need help repainting my slp bowtie grill

my slp bowtie grill (this one if you dont know what im talking about http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...88&BIG=50388-1) is kind of scratched up from bugs and stuff, and there is a part where the paint is chipped off.

so how should i go about this? im pretty ignorant when it comes to painting. keep in mind the grill is made of plastic.

i was thinking use a scuff pad and just scuff off all the old paint. hit it with 2-3 coats of primer and then just take my time and lay on a few coats of gloss black and then a few more coats of clear coat. will this work on plastic? or will i damage the plastic with the scuff pad? let me know, thanks.

Fast forward...

How will you feel when you look at the "finished product" and realize that perhaps you should've taken it to a body shop and had it done correctly, saving you a lot of time and giving you the look you're after.

Besides the fact that you've already admitted that you don't really know how to do it, the paint you use should have a flex agent in it so it won't crack on the soft plastic part.

Do it right the first time and have a professional paint shop take care of it. It won't really cost that much and you'll be happier with the result.

Yeah the flex additive is a big deal on urethane, it'll crack up in no time. I agree, if you're usure, save your pennies and have a shop do it.

cool, thanks for the input guys, how much do you think a shop will charge to repaint it and install it? the bumper needs to be drilled in about 6 places to install it then just use the those plastic tabs.

It could vary. Go talk to a couple shops for an estimate and be sure to bring the grille with you.

I bet you could get it painted for $50.00 easy. If not, keep looking around
