Default My SLP '97 SS Spoiler does not fit good. HELP! *PI

Some people said since the 1997 SLP SS Spoiler I got last week was OEM, test fitting was not a big deal before paint. I figured I should test fit it just to be sure as I am a perfectionist when it comes to my car. Bad fitting body panels, big gaps between panels is a big pet peeve of mine.

I think it looks great on the car. It will really give it that subtle look I'm going after:

Upon closer inspection, I quickly realized the spoiler did not fit perfect like my stock one did/does. I bolted down the spoiler after I took these pics, and the gaps became slightly smaller, but the fitment was still not to my liking.

Is it normal to fit like this? I know SLP says to test fit it before having it prepped and painted. Looks like a body shop has to do a lot of sanding to get it to fit flush.

Any ideas? I figured it being OEM it would fit a lot better than this. I have seen China made after-market spoilers that fit better than this.

I haven't called SLP yet, as I just got done test fitting it. Since I'm on the west coast they are already closed.

You need to send it back, the fiberglass is not right. Call them first thing tomorrow and tell then that it is warped or something. They should replace it.

When I tightened down the bolts the right side seemed to fit pretty decent. The left side still has a problem. When I took the pics, I didn't have it bolted down.

On the left side, if you run your finger from the rear quarter to the spoiler, where the two meet there is a pretty big step. It doesn't fit flush.

So it should fit better than this? Should I try and send it back, or just have a body shop try and get it to fit.

It should fit pretty much flush. Needing some sanding to get completely flush is normal but that is just ridiculous, no amount of sanding would get it right.

This is the same unit that came on my car as a stock piece. The fit on mine is perfect and it should be as it's technically an OEM piece. The pictures clearly show that the unit is jacked up.

My stock spoiler fits perfect. This one does not. I'll give them a call in the morning.

I'm confused about what you are asking.

Also, since I took advantage of the free shipping last week, I should not be liable to pay shipping back to SLP, correct?

on the drivers side there should be an indentation or "bowl" with a hole for the 3rd brake light wiring. if there is no indentation then its their mistake.

There is an indentation and everything looks ok. It's just warped or something.

There are two bolts on each side right? Can the front/left one be tightened further, or does the underside of the spoiler hit something? I just gone one of these too, figured there might be fit problems.

After I took the pics, I cranked the bolts down. The gaps got slightly smaller on the right side, left side was still bad. It didn't fit nearly as good as my stock spoiler.

It could go either way, on warranties its usually the end-user (you) that pays the shipping back. However since its a manufacturer defect they may cover it, I probably wouldn't expect them to pay more than half of it though.

Take it to a legitimate body shop and let them decide before you call SLP... Granted you only paid $129 for it, then again mine definetly fit WAYYY better (obviously not OEM) and I only paid like $250 shipped...

Can you test fit it tomorrow and let me know how it fits. Taking the old spoiler off takes minutes.
