Default Finally did the passenger HUMP delete!!!!

Well, as most of you know, the passenger floor board has the "hump" there. After numerous complaints from friends, women, and others, I decided to delete the hump once and for all. My friend did all the work. A plasma cutter, air tools, and welder made the job relatively easy. I guess the hardest part of the job was making the carpet stretch and glue down properly.

The job basically consisted of:
Plasma cutting the existing floor re-using as much of the stock metal as possible
Modifying the frame rail
Modifying the trans cross member
Adding metal where needed
Contact cementing the carpet down

All in all I am happy with the results. Was it worth it? Yes, in my eyes. When you sit in the passenger seat now (I don't do it very often) it is 3 times as comfortable. I saw how W2W did the same mod on there Camaro build up, and that's what got me thinking about it.

Enough of me talking, enjoy the pics! Comments welcome.

Andy

Oh my god a hole:

Modified frame rail:

Modified trans cross member:

Welded and seam sealed:

Left side shows where the ~2.5" drop is now:

Carpet glued down:

Gotta love the flatness!!!

The above pic shows how close the floor is to the ypipe. Even with PatG's car shown below, and the heat shield, you can see how far away the ypipe is from his floor board. Note the placement of the cross member in both cases. Mine is almost flush with the ypipe.

looks really nice. It's seems like one of those nice little touches you do when you have nothing else in mind. Pretty slick. I LIKE!

turned out great, nice work. that's good that the carpet worked after the fix, and you didn't have to get new stuff.

I was under the impression that LT1 cars had something there...LS1 cars suffered from cutting retooling costs and leaving the hump. Correct me if I'm wrong.

GREAT mod, though, I've always hated that damn thing.

I think the LT1 cars had 4 catalytic converters. When they turned to LS1 based cars, there was no catalytic converter in that spot. GM went cheap and used the same unibody to save some money. It was a cop out of sorts but what can ya do?
