Default powdercoating a water pump.

What do you folks think? I've powdercoated my valve covers, TB, MAF, Coil brackets and other misc pieces on my car(matte black) looks awesome! I have an extra WP that works and was wondering if I powdercoated it, would it retain more heat and not cool as well? I'll post pics when everything is done. What do y'all think?

High temps will ruin the pump, if IIRC. I do not know much about powdercoating and do not know just how hot you can get a pump before you risk damaging it.

Water moves though the pump decently fast, I couldn't see how coating it would make it not cool as well, the water doesn't sit in it long enough to gain much heat. I would hi-temp paint it though like people have said.

Dude, Powdercoating can handle very high temperatures. I think it should do just as good as any high temp paint. I haven't heard of any pc'd parts flaking due to high heat. I'm not doing headers or anything. Just wondering if it would affect the parts performance or not. Thanks!

I was told from various sources that powdercoating the waterpump will possibly harm the bearings as a result of the heat used in powdercoating, hence, why I went with high temp paint.

You put the part in the oven for 15 minutes @400 degrees.

What does everyone think?

Can it handle that or is it a bad idea?

The thing I would be worried about is the seals being damaged by the heat and ending up with a cool looking water pump that leaks.

+1 for high temp paint.

I am powdering a waterpump for an LS1. As we speek it is heating up in the oven. I will tell you this for sure, it will take a half an hour to get the part to temp (400 deg.) because it is so thick so 15min at 400 is not all you will have to worry about. Other than that, I dont know yet. If you are still interested, I will let you know once we put it on the car if it works or not.

High temp paint should work fine. But if your determined to PC it then get an 98 pump and take it it a part and coat just the housing. Edit: I guess you can take it apart...98 was the only year that used a bolt on pulley.

This is mine:

97ramsst is on the money. would need a 98 so you can take it apart.

i probably wouldn't coat any other year unless the customer is comfortable with the fact it might get messed up in my oven.
