Painting Brake Calipers
How hard is it? What do you use to clean the caliper and do you need to prep it in any other way? Do you just spray it or do you need to prime it, and does it stay on the car or do you need to take it off?

Not hard at all. I left mine on the car. I ground the casting marks smooth then cleaned them up. A couple coats of primer, paint, decals then clear. I did mine over a couple of days while the car was sitting up.

99Zee, very nice job, looks great!
I took mine off the rotor and put a garbage bag behind them so all that was exposed was the caliper itself (sorry, its kind of hard to imagine i know). I sprayed them down with brake cleaner and scrubbed at them a bit and then applied the paint and let them dry on a bucket. Not too difficult but I recommend leaving the calipers on and taking that approach due to ease and convenience. Take your time and they will turn out great.

Yours look really good 99zee.
Me and my friend did his calipers on his honda
All he did was sand them and put 2 coats of engine paint.
They looked pretty good for a 2 hour job.

99zee those look awsome. That's exactly what I wanted to do, the black and red. Did you just tape off the bracket from the caliper and vice versa? I saw the write up on ls1howto.com but he didn't paint the bracket.

My brother and I painted his calipers / brackets the same way. A couple of tips:
1. Mask of the WHOLE side of the car with newspaper. We still managed a tiny bit of overspray, but it comes off with a claybar
2. Paint the hats and the edges of the rotors with silver for an added touch (wish we would have)

I used the brush on kit made by dupli color. Works great and is very easy to use. The kit can be found at most auto parts stores.
For reference this is the brush on kit I used

Unless you're doing the painting in a tornado, I don't think you need to mask the whole side of the car. Just do it in a garage where there's no wind. I bought the spray stuff and after a few coats, ended up brushing it on. I just sprayed a bunch of it in a plastic cup and used a brush to smooth out the paint. The spray alone left a kind of a runny look...so I'd recommend the brushed approach. I do mine once a year, and my car is only a weekend/nice weather driver, so yeah it is kind of a pain to keep it looking fresh.
