Default Why Do They Call It "RAM AIR"?

ive always wondered why they call it "Ram" air?

it makes sense if the camaros said it(pictures below-looks similar to a ram head logo) -- but why is it that ws6 hoods say ram air on them? and what does the ram mean/stand for? and does the ws6 have the same design under the hood as camaros?

here is a picture i took on my phone this morning

Actually WS6 hood has more RAM AIR effect than SS hood. WS6 hood is shorter and more direct path to the air lid compare to SS hood.

they call it ram air because when youre driving the air just rams right into the airbox/lid through a directed path..

That explains everything on why people think WS6 have more HP than Z28, Formula, Camaro SS, T/A.

It is called RAM AIR because buyers got rammed by GM for this "air" option.

The option does little to promote a clean air source for the engine, however. Some of the early muscle cars had this feature so GM thought it was a good selling point. Like many other things, they were proved wrong and had to stop production so the Mustang could take over.

You actually get more air from under the lid doing the "free ram air mod" than what is actually going into the little slot in the front. Most are familiar with this and several other "free mods" but for those who are not here's a picture of someone doing the free ram air mod:

This actually gains more hp than trying to get your "ram air" to do anything special.

Wtf man? I do agree that the effect of the ram air is exaggerated but "were proved wrong and had to stop production so the Mustang could take over"? I don't think Ram Air was the reasoning behind stopping production. If nothing else it improves the apperance of the car by a lot I think.

Alright I hope so. I assumed that he was being sarcastic about it or just really had something against the ram air option or something, idk.
