Default Am I the only person that does this?

I made a 16" cardboard cutout that fits right over my wheel and fits snug inside the tire lip. That way when I spray tire shine it doesn't get all over the wheel and brakes...

I also have a big "U" made out of abs plastic that goes over the entire wheel and tire for super windy days to keep it off the paint...

Just wondering..

Not the only one, they sell plastic wheel covers for spraying tires.

I use a tire sponge and tire gel so I don't have to worry about it. Doesn't get on the wheel, doesn't drip/run/fling. I use tire spray in the wheel wells though..

Covered my cardboard in gorilla tape so I can wipe it off and use it over.

I do that too. Why wipe down the wheels when you can just cover them right?

I tried the gel, it sucks...made a complete mess out of the rear bumper cover behind the tire. That **** is really tough to get off. I'm sticking with the spray shine.

Gel sucks! Aerosols are much easier to get back off!

I spray the liquid tire shine on a paintbrush and brush it on thick. It works quite well. Just get a brush that is small enough to keep in a sandwich bag so it will stay faily wet when in storage.

they make fold-up nylon things that cover the wheels to spray tire shine on. some are even adjustable from 15-21inches or something like that.

As previously stated, they already make wheel protectors for this very reason. Mine are made from plastic - I bought them from Mid America Motorworks (Corvette Specialty Catalog) but there are various other mfg. and different materials used.

Being made of plastic makes it easy to wipe the overspray off the protectors.

You can go here: http://www.rimproco.com/index.html to see the folding style mentioned earlier

Makes it sound like you guys are not cleaning there rims when the wash the car? I use the spray and then clean the rims since I clean the rims everythime anyways, I just do that last. Give plenty of time for the tires to dry so it doesn't sling crap.

On a polished wheel like I have the less you get on the wheels the better. Water spots are bitch to get off.

In my case, the TA is a show car - it has not seen actual soap and water for years - only quick detailer and the occasional Menzerna Intensive Polish/Final Polish with PC and Formula113 Wax.

I hand polish my wheels roughly once a month - but apply tire dressing more frequently depending on the conditon/look when I get to the show. In that instance, the wheel protector is great for keeping the dressing off the wheels.

I like using the Stoners tire shine in the aerosol can, it smells as if it's nothing more than starting fluid lol. It works great and doesn't run onto the wheels.

I use a cloth and the spray. I spray the cloth and wipe it on. Spraying is lazy and the **** gets everywhere. It atomizes an the slightest breeze blow's it against your paint some where and I cant stand that ****. When I'm detailing the car it takes all day and no short cuts are taken. Last thing I want is to get any of the tire shine **** on my paint because I was to lazy squat down and wipe it on.
