Default Hood problem...

Ok, I didn't know where to put this, but since it involves my Sunoco hood, I'll put it here, mods move it to wherever is better......

So.. I got my hood back from the paint shop and I've very excited... I start to install it and put the bolts on...they are TIGHT...What is the problem? Oh snap.............. I'm not supposed to use the stock bolts with the Sunoco hood..it came with new bolts...damnit!

Now....I can't get 2 bolts out. If I try to remove them, they just spin..like whatever they screw into in the hood is spinning... and I'm pretty sure that's a big problem....

Any ideas?

I've been doing this all day...

You're gonna have to get pressure pulling on the screws while you unscrew so they grab the next thread. Something like vice grips and put all your weight back on the screw while you unscrew it.

I guess you didn't think to stop when they were so hard going in?

Yeah, I've been trying to put pressure on it... but it's not doing any good... whatever the bolt goes into in the hood seems to just be spinning... So even if I did get the bolt out...I probably wouldn't be able to put new bolts in it.......

I'd hate to have to surgically cut into the hood to be able to grab ahold of whatever it is..but if it has to come down to that.....

This may be totally out of the question...

But since the hood is now mounted to the hinge, take the hinge loose from the car and turn the hood upside down and put a little bit of superglue on the part that is spinning and then take the bolt out. Superglue has a high shear strength...

Yes, I can remove the hood from the car which would probably give me better access and get a better angle on it... but I'm guessing something is spinning on the inside..I'm not entirely sure what it is... and not sure if the glue would get on it, or just glue the bolt to the hood itself..lol

I'm such a dummy

What if you take the hood off, cut the head of the bolt off, and spin it all the way through the other side? Or is it not tightening either

Same thing happend to my friend's sunoco hood. What happened is that there are two nuts epoxyed in the hood under the fiberglass. The nuts broke loose and are spining freely. What my friend did was he cut off the crossthreaded bolts and removed the fiberglass around the mounting nuts to access them. After he removed the nuts, he replaced them with new ones and used fiberglass resin to hold the new nuts in.

I hope this helps.

Later,
Ted Z.
