Default Wheel cleaning advice needed.

OK so this is for my 98 wrangler. I have some American racing Aluminum wheels and they are pitted and look like crap. I mean they are just bad! You touch them and they are ruff as sand paper and are greyish instead of shiny aluminum. I dont know how to get them back. Maybe theres a way to wet sand them? If any one can help me I would really appreciate it. And I would also re clear coat them once or if I can restore the finish. Thanks in advance.

I might take pics tomorow. I need away to take all the bumps off. They are not smooth it feels like just a bunch of grime imbeded into the surface.

You will need to wet sand it starting with 400 grit to 600 to 1000 to 2000 grit paper. After that you will need to polish with Mothers paste Mag and Aluminum polish several times.

Know this is an older thread, but I had chrome US Wheels on before a week ago (went with some black Cragar soft 8's)... And before Ihad them swapped, I cleaned the Jeep and the rims were just nasty looking with rust and whatnot.. A guy in my Jeep club recommended an S.O.S. dish cleaning pad... I wet down the wheels, simple green'd them to get the top layer of road grime and whatnot off, then hosed 'em down and went at them with the S.O.S. pad.... man, that thing got all the nasty rust and everything off of the rims.

I didn't do anything after that because I was getting them taken off a week later, but just this past weekend I took them out of my garage, used another SOS pad and got every last piece of surface rust off of them, then gave them a good chrome polish (cheapo turtle brand chrome polish, works great) and they are looking brand new. Now I can sell them and make back a pretty penny.

Hey not a bad idea, thanks. I just bought the mothers power ball so I can use that after the SOS pad.
